The job:                                                           

The Communications Specialist is responsible for supporting 1% for the Planet’s communications strategy by creating blog, newsletter and social media content as well as engaging with and supporting our growing audience and brand. This role will focus on amplifying the stories and mission of the 1% for the Planet network.

The ideal candidate will be able to successfully:

  • Create written and visual content to showcase the 1% for the Planet global network in action in an effort to drive brand awareness and organizational goals.
  • Work with Communications Manager and Brand & Marketing team to implement brand strategy through social media and communications calendars.
  • Provide value to network stakeholders (business and individual members, nonprofits, donors, etc.) through communications channels.
  • Drive organizational KPIs through inbound marketing efforts.

Key responsibilities:

Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Communications Coordinator will:

  • Support email marketing strategy by creating and disseminating newsletters and other relevant email communications. 
  • Utilize and evolve 1% for the Planet’s brand guidelines and style guide to create content and coordinate the gathering, curation and distribution of content (written and visual), using the blog and social media as primary channels.
  • Support copywriting and proofreading needs for various organizational initiatives.
  • Manage social media engagement on all channels.
  • Work with the Communications Manager to create and implement a robust communications plan that supports internal marketing goals and provides stakeholder value.
  • Manage member, nonprofit and other stakeholder communications requests, such as creating social media and blog content to support their unique needs.
  • Manage systems and processes to source member and nonprofit content for 1% for the Planet’s channels and communications.
  • Research best-in-class social media strategies and new trends to implement within our channels.
  • Support Brand & Marketing team and larger organization by assisting in management of jobs and stakeholder submissions.           

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent
  • 1 to 2 years of communications or related professional experience
  • Well versed in marketing and communication strategies and tactics, especially digital, social media and web
  • Demonstrated commitment to mission-driven work
  • Excellent written communication and storytelling skills
  • Strong relationship-building skills. A true team player who takes a positive and collaborative approach and is comfortable working with various functional groups across the organization.
  • Superb attention to detail, organization and time management skills
  • Expertise in social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn
    and Instagram, and the ability to create and distribute content
  • Data-driven with the aptitude to assess performance and recommend adjustments, especially with Google Analytics
  • Experience with HubSpot and other software such as Salesforce to create and manage campaigns (preferred)
  • Established proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • High degree of initiative required

Location: 1% for the Planet is headquartered in beautiful Burlington, Vermont. For this position, we will also be accepting resumes for remote candidates.

Please note: Currently, no 1% for the Planet staff members are required to work in our physical office space, even Vermont-based employees. Our team is currently either working from home or working a closely monitored hybrid schedule between their home and our headquarters. Any work done at our headquarters by 1% for the Planet staff members that choose to utilize the space is closely monitored by our team to ensure safety protocols for COVID-19 are implemented, regularly updated and upheld. We will safely arrange for any Vermont-based hire to be able to use our office space, should they request it. We will also work with any candidates to discuss a remote work schedule that feels most safe to them.
